How to: Wear Lace this Summer

I’ll be honest. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with lace. I always find it’s slightly too much for the minimalism fiend within me to handle.  I do believe, however, that it looks a million times better on a person than on the hanger. It’s a fabric that needs structure to work otherwise I am reminded of the lacklustre drape of my granny’s curtains. There is one designer that keeps the ‘love’ part of my lace relationship intact though – Erdem. His somewhat habitual use of lace in his designs, especially in his SS11 collection, has kept the delicate material in the fashion game and most definitely given it a new lease of life. His lacy masterpieces are nothing less than magical and he somehow manages to maintain its pretty nature whilst creating a modern statement. My love for his work grew even deeper when the Duchess of Cornwall initiated her 2011 North American tour in an Erdem navy lace dress. The epitome of modern grace, I couldn’t think of a better muse for …

AW13: Designer Trends on the High Street

So every Fashion Week we watch creation after creation stream down the catwalks, trends for the season ahead being born before our eyes. As the season approaches and the weather changes, the High Street prepares for battle – which retailer will get it right and who can replicate our designer lusts the best so us common people can feel at least a little bit ‘high end’? Here’s some High End trends you can find on the High Street at the moment…   1. STELLA MCCARTNEY V MANGO: TAILORED PINSTRIPES Stella McCartney carries on her masculine/feminine vibe on the …

LFW Diaries

Day 4 9.45am: ROKSANDA ILINCIC Ilincic showcased her Spring/Summer 2014 collection in the surroundings of London Bridge Quarter. Her designs put the geo trend back into the forefront of our minds for next Summer – it’s not over yet! The bold Crayola colours were a breath of fresh air after the ‘pastels, pastels and more pastels’ situation we are more than used to now for Spring/Summer – fingers crossed next year will be the year of no pastels! Illincic has focussed on structure and minimalism for this season, creating bold lines with geometric prints on tunic style dresses and laser cut neoprene patterns decorating skirts. There was, however, an element of feminism that helped balance Ilincic’s statement – queue the embellished 3D flowers, the CUTEST bow heels ever and cinched in waists on dresses to provide a womanly silhouette. This is minimalism at its maximum – a wearable collection that allows women to look less cutesy, more ‘fashion’ for Summer. I predict the high street will definitely imitate the petal embellished jacket and I will …
