Summertime at the Victoria Quarter

Last week, the Victoria Quarter invited me to an afternoon full of food, fashion and fitness to celebrate summertime at the iconic shopping haven in the heart of Leeds City Centre. Home to luxury fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton and Paul Smith, the VQ is the primary destination for luxury shoppers in Leeds. It has even become an architectural landmark for tourists visiting the city due to the beauty of its elaborate, Victorian arcades which truly add to the experience. The VQ is a fashion hotspot however delicious food can also be found notably at Filmore & Union, a health-conscious restaurant located in the centre of the quarter underneath the colourful stain-glassed roof. If you’re looking for a sophisticated and nutritious pitstop to your retail therapy then Filmore & Union provides this in the bucket loads. With a natural and clean decor, the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. Open from 8am in the morning, the food guru brand provide a delicious breakfast menu with healthy options from protein pancakes to a Filmore style Skinny …

Show Dry : Harvey Nichols Leeds

‘Gorgeous hair is the best revenge’ – Ivana Trump Have you ever tried blowdrying your hair in a rush before? Yep, me neither. That’s because it just simply isn’t an option. The heavy barrel brush, the difficult angles, the time it takes. I can be at work sat at my desk with a cuppa much quicker by sticking to my usual routine of dangling my hair upside down and swirling my hairdryer around my head for a few minutes. However when my hair reaches pancake levels of flatness by lunchtime let’s just say I’m not having the best hair day of my life. The thing about my hair is I have quite a lot of it but it’s very fine and poker straight so achieving a bit of texture and volume is a big deal for me! Gone are the days of back combing and gallons of Elnette – the future is Kate Middleton hair. Glossy and naturally bouncy, K Mids has revolutionised the Blow Dry and with help from Show Dry it’s a possibility …

How to dress ‘Street-Style’

SANDAL WEATHER? Even in the depths of Winter, fashion girls can be spotted donning a pair of leather sandals they picked up in Santorini during their summer holidays. It’s a tough one to pull off and it’s mostly all about the dimensions. Your legs must be covered and because we’re talking A/W that pretty much leaves you with one option: long palazzo-style pants, only in black. It’s important you assure the rest of us that you have carefully calculated your sandals for the cold season and you haven’t just thrown on your summer flats in a moment of craziness and walked out the door in minus temperatures. A pedicure is evidently imperative. So is a pair of bold and black tinted sunnies; the only type of sunglasses allowed in Winter, plus they say ‘I’m wearing sunnies in Winter therefore it is sunny therefore I am somewhat allowed to wear my sandals without looking too cray cray’. Now you know. Shop the look at Mango : Leather Sandals, £24.99; Palazzo pants, £22.45; Cotton cropped jacket, £29.99; …

Harvey Nichols Leeds: Kristina Blahnik Q&A

On the evening of 7th October, Harvey Nichols Leeds invited me to a Q&A event with Kristina Blahnik, Manolo Blahnik‘s lefthand woman when it comes to his family-run shoe empire who is also, incidentally, his niece. Here’s my story of the intriguing and fascinating stories she told us… Leaning against the structure of the water fountain in the central hub of the Victoria Quarter in Leeds after a day at work, I browsed my Instagram and checked my emails before entering Harvey Nichols to attend the Manolo event. As I anticipated the occasion, I thought about what Manolo Blahnik meant to me. The first image that sprung to mind was a youthful Carrie Bradshaw pounding a New York sidewalk in a pair of Manolo Mary Janes followed by a scene from Sex and the City where Carrie exclaims ‘Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes! I thought these were an urban shoe myth!’. For Manolo Blahnik, Carrie was the turning point for the designer’s commerciality, something he never pushed for, however after Candace Bushnell wrote his shoes into the book out of pure …
