When you find a skincare routine that actually works…

Skincare is like a game of minesweeper for me. A few weeks of haphazard cleansing with an exciting new product and my skin can explode into a red, irritable mess. It’s a small miracle when I actually find a routine of products that genuinely improve the clarity of my skin. At the moment, I feel like I’m winning the battle. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the expert level of Caroline Hirons, I’d say I feel about a seven for creating this magical beauty concoction (woah).

FullSizeRenderSo, time for the DL. I take my makeup off with the Emma Hardy Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm. Pricey but a tiny bit goes a long way. Also feels like you’re giving your face a mini massage every evening which will in turn prevent wrinkles (score). Just an overall luxurious product that doesn’t break me out. Amen to that. I usually follow with a light cleanse using a gel based product, such as Kiehl’s Calendula Foaming Facewash.

Next is probably the best new product I’ve come across in 2016, so far. I swipe my face with a cotton pad soaked in Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner. This liquid removes dead skin cells like no other, let me tell you. It feels like the results you would get from a chemical peel without all the crazy toxins. It leaves your skin so smooth and there’s lots of botanical extracts swimming around in there that sooth away my blemishes. I can totally see why this product is selling out everywhere at the moment. Buy it – you won’t regret it.

Attempting to find an SPF moisturiser that doesn’t break me out had been going as well as my quest to make Alex Turner my boyfriend until I came across the Avene Moisturising Protecting Cream SPF 20. Miracle numero uno: it soaks into the skin and isn’t ultra thick. Miracle numero dos: It doesn’t make me spotty. I know this sounds ridiculous but I’ve felt much more relaxed about life in general knowing I have my face protected from evil sun rays. I recently bought their Hydrating Serum too and it’s working a treat. What can I say, my skin just loves French thermal spring water…

I pray to the beauty gods every night for this regime to keep doing its stuff. Going back to the experimental stage is no fun. And it also annoys my boyfriend immensely. “How many more bloody creams do you need to buy, Jessica” is his favourite line.
