Alexa Chung has reached a level of style status that is pretty untouchable. Her career as a fashion icon has progressed into the clique-y realm – you can spot a Chung-ista a mile off. I was looking through old magazines the other day and found a 2008 issue of ELLE with Alexa’s slightly rounder face on the cover. She looked like a Bambi in headlights, fresh to the fashion pages and unknowingly delving into a future life of style appearances and designer Frows. Her hair was cut into a cutely coiffed bob and she hadn’t quite conquered her famous eyeliner cat flick yet. I noticed something familiar though; her clothes. Unlike Victoria Beckham who evolved from Puma to Prada, Chung’s style was there from the starting line and dynamic to say the least.
ELLE, April 2008
Whether she’s watching bands perform at Glastonbury or filming for Vogue at London Fashion Week, notes of her individual style are forever apparent as well as being totally interchangeable – she never looks out of place! Her street style differs to her studio yet that’s the whole point. She wears what she wants. She may be an Indie girl at heart but, let’s face it, indie isn’t indie anymore. In her own words, ‘People don’t take risks because they’re afraid something isn’t in season, but you should have fun with fashion and wear what you want’. Kinda ironic that hundreds of girls try to steal her style but, hey, who can blame them, she always looks so f*cking cool. Here’s how to do it gals.
