She was a Skater Girl…

skater7

Gone are the days where I can wear baggy jeans, studded belts and bright pink sweatbands, thank goodness. However, there’s still a mini Avril Lavigne-esque skater chick living in me somewhere, which is why this season’s trainer has me excited. The skater shoe has returned to keep our tootsies free of sky high platforms and with the trainer revolution currently taking over the fashion world, the skater slip on is just another comfy step in the same direction.

The difference between the skater and other trainers is predominantly their simplicity – they’re sleek, no fuss, no frills shoes with a basic concept colour, print or fabric. With just a simple elasticated detail, skaters are effortless in both aesthetics and utility. Inspired by Celine, Givenchy and Saint Laurent over the past year (remember the plaid print Celine craze?) they are the perfect component for a girl who likes her basics. What do I mean? A flash of furry leopard print, leather snake print or faux horse hair on the feet gives minimalism lovers an extra dimension whilst keeping a clean cut form. Stick to monochromatic shades, leather basics and sports luxe pieces, such as a bomber jacket, to style this new era of Skater for SS14. Here’s a few you can choose from the High Street!
