House of Holland, Derek Lam and Balmain brought us gingham this summer. It’s all thanks to these designers that we will now worry that we look too cowgirl-esque on our way out to summer barbeques in a few months time. But, fear not, there is a way to stay clear of the Jessie look. This season’s checks are all about contrast – small checks teamed with large checks, red checks mixed with blue checks, textured checks combined with cotton checks. Think outside the check and be bold! Minimalism this is not. In fact, is minimalism finally on its way out? This season’s super trends, such as gingham, seem to suggest it is. It’s also appealing to see something other than florals dominate the High Street’s Spring/Summer print stories. Gingham is clean cut with a ‘mod’ style finish. In other words – it’s not too girly. This season, it seems to be available in everything from smock dresses to bomber jackets. Take a leaf out of 2014’s style book and choose gingham to de-minimalise your wardrobe this summer.
