With Olympic fever lingering in every corner of the United Kingdom, it is not surprising to see its filtration into Fashion. Sporty vibes were noted in a few Spring/Summer 12 collections, inspired by the anticipated Olympic mania to hit our country this Summer. Fashion experts are referring to this style as ‘Sports Luxe’, a new trend which epitomizes modernity, fusing basic silhouettes with high technology materials, advancing sportswear to a entirely new domain: the Catwalk. Versus (top left), combining the prestigious creative minds of Donatella Versace and Jonathon Saunders, instantly indicated Sports Luxe by displaying their S/S 12 collection on a basketball themed catwalk and involving sporty silhouettes with Versace’s signature polished poise. Stella McCartney (top right), designer of the Team GB’s London 2012 Olympics kit, incorporated a slice of sport into her S/S 12 collection with slip dresses made of an athletic mesh material for high luxe with a sporty edge. Rag & Bone (bottom left) added sporty details to their collection – think neon shades, plastic zips and hooded jackets. Scuba chic describes Peter Pilotto S/S 12 (bottom right) with prints reflecting barrier reef sea creatures and wetsuit inspired cuts baring a high collar and a black zip running all the way down the middle of the frame. If you want a luxurious look with a modernistic element, this trend wins a gold medal. – GWC
